While the name of the album may sound like a violent act, it’s really a metaphor for things to change, and change is never totally peaceful. It takes time and courage to evolve, to say goodbye to what is familiar and start something new, from scratch. But the instability of the unknown is what makes it exciting, frightening yet hopeful. It is a way of letting go, starting a revolution of self, reinventing things while going back to what matters most.
Written around 2020, the album’s 9 songs reflect on existence, love, hope and the search of one’s self-identity in the midst of uncertainty and fear for things to come. The project marks a turning point for Fabe Gryphin, placing greater emphasis on his identity as a songwriter.
Recording began in Fabe’s home studio in 2023 using his late father’s old slightly out of tune piano, an instrument at the heart of the creative process. With Saint Estrela on drums and later adding bass, guitars, and layered instrumentation, the duo shaped a full-band sound while maintaining the recordings’ organic, homemade essence.

Fabe Gryphin, auteur-compositeur-interprète et pianiste originaire de Nyon, s’associe au multi-instrumentiste et producteur Saint Estrela pour présenter Kill the King, un projet à la croisée du folk, du rock et de l’indie, teinté d’influences country.
Derrière ce titre évocateur se cache une métaphore du changement, du renouveau : une transformation nécessaire, qui demande du temps et du courage. Abandonner ce qui est familier pour se réinventer implique d’embrasser l’inconnu, avec tout ce qu’il comporte de peur, d’instabilité mais aussi d’espoir. Ce processus passe par une forme de lâcher-prise : accepter de perdre ses repères pour mieux se reconstruire. Kill the King incarne ainsi une révolution intérieure, ce besoin de revenir à l’essentiel tout en redéfinissant son identité.
Écrites autour de 2020, les neuf chansons qui composent l’album explorent des thèmes universels tels que l’existence, l’amour, l’espoir et la quête d’identité dans un contexte d’incertitude. Ce projet marque un tournant pour Fabe Gryphin, qui met ici davantage en lumière son identité d’auteur-compositeur. Là où ses anciens travaux mêlaient rap, jazz et électro pop, il privilégie ici une approche plus organique et intime, recentrée sur l’écriture, le chant et l’émotion.
Enregistré en grande partie en 2023 dans le home studio de l’artiste, l’album prend racine autour du vieux piano droit désaccordé de son père disparu — un instrument au cœur du processus créatif. Saint Estrela y apporte ensuite toute sa richesse sonore en enregistrant batteries, basses, guitares et autres orchestrations, offrant aux morceaux une dimension de groupe tout en préservant leur authenticité acoustique.
